Donald Trump Expresses Support for Legalizing Adult Marijuana Use in Florida, According to Reuters

WASHINGTON – Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has expressed support for a ballot initiative in Florida that aims to legalize recreational marijuana for adults aged 21 and older.
This statement, made on the social media platform Truth Social late on Sunday, follows a previous comment from August in which he suggested he was open to the idea of legalizing recreational marijuana in the state.
Trump’s endorsement of the ballot initiative, referred to as Amendment 3, comes in contrast to some fellow Republicans, including Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who have opposed the measure. Historically, Trump’s administration was against efforts to expand cannabis access.
As Trump prepares to face off against Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris in the presidential election on November 5, polls indicate a tightly contested race.
“I believe it is time to end needless arrests and incarcerations of adults for small amounts of marijuana for personal use,” Trump stated. He also added, “As a Floridian, I will be voting YES on Amendment 3 this November.”
In his social media post, Trump signaled support for ongoing legislative efforts to facilitate banking services for cannabis businesses operating legally under state laws. He noted that as President, he would prioritize research into the medical uses of marijuana and work with Congress to implement practical laws, including safe banking for state-authorized companies.
In response, the Harris campaign criticized Trump’s statement as contradictory to his administration’s history of opposing marijuana reform. Joseph Costello, a spokesperson for the Harris campaign, remarked, “Despite his blatant pandering, Donald Trump cannot paper over his extensive record of dragging marijuana reform backward.”
