California Revisits Proposal to Reform Rooftop Solar Policy – Reuters
California is once again soliciting input from solar companies, utilities, and other stakeholders in an ongoing effort to reform the state’s rooftop solar power incentives, according to a document released by the California Public Utilities Commission.
The commission is revisiting a proposal introduced last year, which faced heavy criticism from the solar installation sector, with many labeling it as detrimental to jobs and the industry as a whole.
The agency is specifically looking for feedback on whether solar panel owners should contribute to funding low-income assistance and energy efficiency programs. Additionally, there is a discussion about the potential for these owners to receive an extra bill credit, which would be gradually phased out, in addition to the existing credits they receive for sending surplus energy back to the grid.
Comments on this proposal will be accepted until June 10.
