Three Killed, Nine Injured in Construction Collapse at Idaho Airport
Federal and local investigators are currently working to identify the cause of a tragic collapse at an airport hangar under construction in Boise, Idaho, which resulted in the deaths of three individuals and injuries to nine others.
The incident took place around 5 p.m. local time on Wednesday at Boise Airport, the primary airfield serving the state’s capital. Aaron Hummel, Division Chief of Operations for the Boise Fire Department, described the event as a “large-scale collapse” of the building’s framework, characterizing it as a “fairly catastrophic” structural failure.
Three individuals were confirmed dead at the site, while nine others suffered injuries, with five of them reported to be in critical condition at nearby hospitals.
Authorities, including officials from the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration, are investigating the cause of the collapse. Hummel noted that a crane at the construction site also fell during the incident.
The Jackson Jet Center, the owner of the building, stated that numerous workers were present at the site, which is dedicated to a new 39,000-square-foot steel hangar.
Meanwhile, the Boise Fire Department reported that operational activities at the airport were not disrupted by the incident.
