CFTC Commissioner Proposes Crypto Regulatory Pilot Program
Caroline Pham, a commissioner with the United States Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), has proposed a limited pilot program aimed at improving the regulation of cryptocurrency markets.
In a pre-recorded message for a Cato Institute event on September 7, Pham stated that after holding public roundtable discussions, she intends to put forward a pilot program for digital asset markets. She expressed concerns that the U.S. may need to “play catch-up” with jurisdictions that are more accommodating to cryptocurrencies. Pham suggested that this program would be akin to regulatory sandboxes that have been implemented at the state level.
