China “Firmly Supports” Lebanon in Safeguarding Its Security, According to Reuters
HONG KONG – China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed strong support for Lebanon regarding its sovereignty and security during a meeting with Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib on Monday. This meeting took place in New York, where both foreign ministers discussed the ongoing situation in the Middle East, as indicated by a statement from China’s Foreign Ministry.
On the same day, Israel’s military reported conducting airstrikes against Hezbollah positions in Lebanon, which resulted in significant casualties, with Lebanese officials stating that 492 people had died and tens of thousands were forced to flee their homes—a tragic escalation marking one of the deadliest days in the region’s recent history.
Wang emphasized that, regardless of how the situation evolves, China will remain aligned with "justice and on the side of Arab brothers, including Lebanon." He also highlighted China’s ongoing commitment to exploring peace in the Middle East and collaborating with Arab nations and the international community.
Wang firmly condemned indiscriminate attacks on civilians and cautioned that responding to violence with further violence would exacerbate humanitarian crises rather than resolve issues in the region.
He called on the international community to take a clear stance and urged regional cooperation, suggesting that the current conflicts are reflective of the broader implications stemming from the Gaza situation. Wang reiterated China’s advocacy for a permanent ceasefire and complete troop withdrawal in order to advance towards a viable two-state solution.
