China Implements Anti-Dumping Measures on EU Brandy Imports, Reports Reuters
China has announced provisional anti-dumping measures on brandy imports from the European Union, reversing an earlier decision amid ongoing trade discussions. Starting October 11, importers will need to pay a security deposit to Chinese customs when bringing in brandy from the EU.
This change comes after a prior indication from Beijing that it would not impose provisional tariffs on EU brandy, despite findings that these products were being sold below market prices in China. The initial decision aimed to provide both parties some flexibility in their trade negotiations.
Previously, when the commerce ministry opted against implementing provisional anti-dumping measures, it stated that the investigation would conclude before January 5, 2025, with the possibility of an extension.
Recently, China has been actively seeking support from the EU’s 27-member states to oppose the European Commission’s plan to impose significant tariffs on Chinese-made electric vehicles, with a vote on this issue expected soon.
