
Magnitude 4.7 Earthquake Shakes Malibu in Southern California: USGS Report by Reuters
LOS ANGELES – A 4.7 magnitude earthquake rattled the city of Malibu and surrounding areas in Los Angeles on Thursday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Fortunately, there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
The earthquake occurred at 7:28 AM PT, located 6 kilometers (3.7 miles) north of Malibu, and had a shallow depth of approximately 11.3 kilometers (7.0 miles). Following the main quake, several aftershocks were recorded, measuring between 2.7 and 3.4 in magnitude.
The Los Angeles Fire Department reported that its emergency protocols were activated, and inspections revealed no significant infrastructure damage or injuries.
Residents in Malibu described experiencing strong shaking that lasted between 20 and 30 seconds. People as far down the coast and in downtown Los Angeles also reported feeling the tremors.
