Crypto Community Buzzes Over Craig Wright’s Latest Move
In a recent development regarding Craig Wright, the self-proclaimed Satoshi Nakamoto, Judge James Mellor issued further rulings on Tuesday.
On July 16, a judgment was approved that prohibits Dr. Wright from republishing his false claims of being Satoshi Nakamoto. He is required to delete all existing statements that assert this claim. Additionally, a dissemination order mandates that he publish Judge Mellor’s findings and publicly dissociate himself from the Satoshi identity.
For a period of six months, Wright must announce on his website, Twitter, and Slack that he is not Satoshi. He has also been referred to the Crown Prosecution Service for possible prosecution concerning perjury and forgery.
During the court proceedings in London, Wright attempted to prove that he was the original creator of Bitcoin and therefore owned the intellectual property rights, including the copyright for the Bitcoin white paper and early Bitcoin software.
In a legal notice posted on Wright’s official website, it was stated: “Dr. Craig Steven Wright is not Satoshi Nakamoto.” This notice quickly gained attention within the cryptocurrency community and was widely shared by various Bitcoin-focused accounts and enthusiasts.
According to the legal notice, on May 20, 2024, Dr. Wright was determined by the High Court of England and Wales to have been dishonest about his claims regarding the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Bitcoin. The court found that he had extensively lied during his testimony and had attempted to fabricate evidence through large-scale document forgery.
The ruling indicated that all of Wright’s lies and forgeries were directed at supporting his primary falsehood: his assertion that he is Satoshi Nakamoto. Through various legal actions in the U.K., Norway, and the U.S., Dr. Wright committed a serious abuse of the judicial process.
Furthermore, the High Court declared that Wright is not Satoshi and does not hold the copyright to the Bitcoin white paper or the Bitcoin software. He was specifically forbidden from initiating any legal proceedings based on his fraudulent claims or attempting to influence others to do so. He is also prohibited from threatening any such legal actions, either directly or indirectly.
