European Commission President Arrives in Kyiv to Discuss Support for Ukraine, Reports Reuters

European Commission President Visits Kyiv to Discuss Support for Ukraine

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has arrived in Kyiv, Ukraine, to engage in discussions regarding Europe’s support for the country, particularly in light of the impending winter season, defense matters, and advancements on G7 loans.

"This is my eighth visit to Kyiv, coinciding with the start of the heating season and ongoing attacks by Russia on energy infrastructure," von der Leyen shared on social media.

During her visit, she announced that 160 million euros derived from frozen Russian assets will be allocated to address Ukraine’s urgent humanitarian needs as winter approaches.

Von der Leyen highlighted that Russia’s actions have resulted in the loss of approximately 9 gigawatts (GW) of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, equating to the energy requirements of the three Baltic states.

Additionally, she stated that the European Union intends to restore 2.5 GW of power generation capacity, while also increasing exports to provide 2 GW of electricity to Ukraine.

Von der Leyen’s agenda includes meetings with President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and other key officials in Ukraine.
