Greece Stocks Close Lower; Athens General Composite Falls 0.22%

After the market close on Friday, Greek stocks experienced a decline, primarily due to losses in key sectors. The Athens Stock Exchange Index closed down by 0.22%.

Among the day’s top performers, Optima Bank SA saw an increase of 2.77%, or 0.36 points, finishing at 13.34. Similarly, Athens Water gained 2.66%, or 0.15 points, closing at 5.79, while Quest Holdings rose by 2.10%, or 0.11 points, to settle at 5.36.

On the other hand, the worst performers included Lavipharm SA, which dropped by 2.47%, or 0.02 points, to close at 0.79. Motor Oil Hellas Corinth Refineries saw a decline of 2.33%, or 0.50 points, ending at 20.92, and Biokarpet Industrial and Commercial Enterprises fell by 1.85%, or 0.04 points, to 1.86.

Overall, declining stocks outnumbered those that advanced on the Athens Stock Exchange by 66 to 50, with 21 remaining unchanged. Notably, shares of Optima Bank SA reached an all-time high.

In commodity markets, December gold futures rose by 1.01%, or 26.50, reaching $2,641.10 per troy ounce. Meanwhile, crude oil for November delivery experienced a slight drop of 0.44%, or 0.31, settling at $70.85 a barrel, and the November Brent oil contract decreased by 0.53%, or 0.40, to trade at $74.48 a barrel.

In foreign exchange, the EUR/USD exchange rate remained steady, showing a slight change of 0.12% at 1.11, while EUR/GBP saw a minor increase of 0.15% to 0.84. The US Dollar Index closed up by 0.29% at 100.61.
