US Concerned About Report on Russia’s Secret War Drones Project in China, White House States, According to Reuters

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The United States has expressed significant concern regarding a report indicating that Russia may have a covert drone development project in China. This initiative appears to involve a Chinese company providing military assistance to a Russian firm currently under U.S. sanctions, according to a White House spokesperson on Wednesday.

While the U.S. has found no evidence suggesting that the People’s Republic of China (PRC) was aware of these transactions or that its government was involved in supplying lethal aid to Russia, a spokesperson from the National Security Council (NSC) emphasized that the PRC has a responsibility to ensure its businesses refrain from providing such assistance.

Reports from two European intelligence sources, along with additional documents, suggest that Russia is developing a weapons program in China aimed at creating long-range attack drones for use in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

The NSC spokesperson noted that these transactions highlight shortcomings in the PRC government’s assumptions regarding its oversight and responsibilities.

The United States is prepared to take swift action against the Chinese companies implicated in the report and will investigate which financial institutions facilitated transactions with the sanctioned Russian entity. Additionally, Washington plans to collaborate with European allies on potential next steps in addressing the situation.
