Fire at Alberta Gas Metering Station Leads to Temporary Highway Closure, According to Reuters
A fire near Edson, Canada, led to the temporary closure of a major highway on Monday, affecting a gas metering station, according to Yellowhead County officials in northern Alberta.
Alberta Wildfire reported that there was no immediate threat to surrounding communities, although the fire was estimated to cover an area of three hectares.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) confirmed that travel on Highway 16 had been halted due to the grass fire. However, by Monday afternoon, they announced that the eastbound lanes were reopened to motorists.
There have been no reports of direct damage to nearby pipelines. Yellowhead County is actively working with various organizations, including FortisAlberta, TransMountain Pipeline, Atco Gas, AltaLink, Alberta Forestry, and the RCMP.
Authorities are still investigating to determine whose gas metering station was involved in the incident, as reported by a county spokesman.
