Five Killed in Fire After Small Plane Crash in Californian Town

A small plane crashed in Yorba Linda, southern California, on Sunday afternoon, resulting in the deaths of the pilot and four individuals inside a house that was ignited by the crash, according to police reports.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department noted that two additional individuals sustained moderate burns. Yorba Linda is situated approximately 35 miles southeast of Los Angeles.

The twin-engine Cessna 414A went down about 10 minutes after taking off from a nearby airport, scattering debris across four blocks and setting fire to a residence.

The crash claimed the lives of two men and two women as a result of the fire.

Local resident Nancy Mehl, 65, recounted hearing the distinctive sound of an airplane engine before taking shelter in her home with her two dogs. “Then it felt like a bomb went off through the front of the house,” she said.

Debris shattered windows, and a propeller landed in her driveway, while a burning wing was discovered in another neighbor’s front yard.

Authorities evacuated the area, and officials stated that the fire is currently under investigation. The National Transportation Safety Board is also conducting an inquiry into the incident, although a representative was not available for comment initially.
