GM Recalling 450,000 Pickup Trucks and SUVs Over Warning Light Issue, According to Reuters

General Motors Issues Recall for 450,000 Pickup Trucks and SUVs

General Motors is recalling approximately 450,000 pickup trucks and SUVs in the United States due to a potential failure of the low brake fluid warning light, as reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The affected vehicles include the 2023 model year Chevrolet Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500, as well as the 2023-2024 Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Yukon, Yukon XL, Cadillac Escalade, and Escalade ESV models.

The issue stems from electronic brake control module software that may not properly activate a warning light in the event of low brake fluid. Fortunately, no injuries or crashes have been reported related to this issue, and the company plans to resolve it through an over-the-air software update.

GM noted that the problem was flagged by an engineer through its "Speak Up For Safety" program after the warning light failed to illuminate during a controlled brake fluid leak test.

Following the announcement, GM’s stock saw a modest increase of 0.5%.
