Harris Holds Slim Lead Over Trump in Key Swing States – Bloomberg News

Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris has significantly narrowed the economic lead once held by Republican rival Donald Trump, intensifying the competition between the two in crucial battleground states that could greatly influence the upcoming November election, according to a recent poll by Bloomberg News and Morning Consult.

The poll, which examined several key swing states, indicates that Harris now enjoys a 7-point advantage among likely voters in Nevada, a 5-point lead in Pennsylvania, and 3-point leads in Arizona, Michigan, and Wisconsin. In North Carolina, she holds a 2-point edge.

In Georgia, which supported Trump in 2016 and Biden in 2020, the poll showed a tie. However, another survey indicated that Harris received 51% support compared to Trump’s 48% in the state.

Bloomberg noted that while Harris has the lead in several areas, the margins fall within the statistical margin of error, suggesting that the election—approximately 40 days away—could ultimately hinge on narrow differences or be decided by a single state in the Electoral College.

Importantly, voter perceptions of Harris’s ability to manage the economy have improved, though Trump still leads in this critical area. Economic concerns remain the top priority for voters in battleground states when choosing their candidate.

Trump’s lead on economic stewardship now stands at 4 percentage points, down from 6 points in an earlier August poll. Additionally, when asked who would better manage everyday expenses, the responses were almost equal: 47% for Trump and 46% for Harris.

Overall, nearly 70% of voters believe the economy is headed in the wrong direction.

The poll arrives as Harris has been focusing on economic issues, recently unveiling an 82-page policy guide aimed at reducing costs for groceries and healthcare while promoting the manufacturing sector. In contrast, Trump has proposed a vision that includes broad tariffs on most imports and a reduction in tax rates for U.S. manufacturers.
