UK Opposition Labour Party Outlines Conditions for Supporting May on Brexit, Reports Reuters

LONDON – The leader of Britain’s opposition Labour Party, Jeremy Corbyn, has reached out to Prime Minister Theresa May, offering support for her Brexit deal if she agrees to five legally binding commitments, one of which includes joining a customs union.

Here are the five demands anticipated from Labour in exchange for backing the deal:

  • Establishment of a permanent customs union, which would grant the UK a voice in future trade agreements.
  • Close alignment with the EU’s single market, supported by shared institutions and obligations.
  • A commitment to uphold workers’ rights akin to those provided by the EU.
  • Guarantees for participation in EU agencies and funding programs, particularly regarding the environment, education, and industrial regulation.
  • Clarification on future security arrangements, including continued access to the European Arrest Warrant.
