At Least Four Dead After Oil Barge Sinks in Venezuela, Reports Indicate
At least four individuals have been reported deceased following the sinking of an oil barge operated by a contractor for Venezuela’s state energy company, PDVSA, in Lake Maracaibo. This incident was confirmed through various reports on Thursday.
By Thursday morning, 19 people had been successfully rescued from the site of the accident.
Incidents involving barges transporting Venezuelan oil and fuel between domestic ports and the Caribbean have become increasingly common. Notably, a significant fuel oil spill occurred near Tobago in March after a barge capsized while navigating from Venezuela, affecting several Caribbean nations.
PDVSA has not yet responded to requests for comments regarding the incident.
