Kuwait Thwarts Plot to Target Shi’ite Places of Worship, Reports State News Agency
Kuwait’s interior ministry announced on Thursday that they had thwarted a plot by a militant group targeting Shi’ite Muslim places of worship, according to the state news agency.
Security forces monitored the group’s activities and subsequently arrested three individuals identified as members of a terrorist organization. The agency noted that the three suspects were of Arab descent but did not provide further details.
In a significant context, Kuwait endured its deadliest militant attack in recent history in 2015, when a Saudi suicide bomber detonated an explosion inside a crowded Shi’ite mosque, resulting in the death of 27 individuals. The Islamic State later claimed responsibility for that attack.
