Macron Declares April 24 as Commemoration Day for Armenian Genocide in France, According to Reuters

Paris – On Tuesday, French President Emmanuel Macron proclaimed April 24 as a day to commemorate the Armenian genocide in France. This issue has been a source of ongoing tensions between Turkey and various European Union member states.

During the annual dinner for the Coordination Council of Armenian Organizations in France, Macron reiterated a promise he made during his 2017 campaign, emphasizing that France was one of the first nations to condemn "the murderous hunt of the Armenian people in the Ottoman Empire."

France officially recognized the Armenian Genocide back in 2001.

Turkey acknowledges that many Armenians in the Ottoman Empire were killed during clashes with Ottoman forces during World War I, but disputes the numbers and asserts that the killings were not part of a systematic campaign, thus denying that they constitute genocide.
