WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Five individuals, including three children, lost their lives on Sunday in a series of interconnected incidents in southern Manitoba. A Canadian official has indicated that a 29-year-old man believed to be associated with the victims has been arrested.
Tim Arseneault from the Manitoba Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) confirmed at a news briefing that the incidents are indeed linked. "It is believed that the adult male in custody and all five deceased individuals are known to each other," Arseneault remarked.
The first incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. when officers with the Carman RCMP responded to a report of a hit-and-run. Upon arriving at the scene, they discovered the body of a woman.
Later in the day, the Headingley RCMP received a call regarding a vehicle engulfed in flames. A witness managed to rescue three young children from the vehicle, but sadly, they were pronounced dead at the scene.
The 29-year-old male was taken into custody at the site of the second incident. Subsequent investigations led the officers to a residence in Carman, where they found the body of another woman.
