
U.K. Stocks Rise at Close; United Kingdom 100 Up 0.17%
U.K. stocks experienced an upward trend following the market close on Thursday, bolstered by gains in multiple sectors.
At the end of trading in London, the main index increased by 0.17%.
Leading the gains for the session were Anglo American PLC, which saw a rise of 6.16%, equivalent to 141.50 points, bringing its trading value to 2,439.50. Prudential PLC followed closely, adding 6.14% or 39.40 points to close at 681.60. Antofagasta PLC also performed well, climbing 5.78% or 111.00 points to reach 2,031.00.
Conversely, the day’s poorest performers included Shell PLC, which dropped 4.62% or 117.00 points to end at 2,415.00. BP PLC also fell by 4.10%, down 16.40 points, closing at 383.85, while British American Tobacco PLC decreased by 2.82%, or 80.00 points, reaching a value of 2,762.00.
On the London Stock Exchange, advancing stocks outnumbered those that declined, with 1,182 rising against 651 that fell, while 638 remained unchanged.
Shares in BP PLC hit a 52-week low, reflecting the decline of 4.10% or 16.40 points to close at 383.85.
In commodity markets, Gold Futures for December delivery rose by 0.17% or 4.50, trading at $2,689.20 per troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude Oil for November delivery saw a decrease of 2.31% or 1.61, settling at $68.08 per barrel, and the December Brent oil contract fell by 2.03% or 1.48, trading at $71.42 per barrel.
In currency markets, GBP/USD edged up by 0.64% to reach 1.34, while EUR/GBP remained relatively stable, unchanged at 0.83.
The US Dollar Index Futures declined by 0.29%, moving to 100.33.
