Microsoft Announces $1.3 Billion Investment in Mexico’s Cloud and AI Infrastructure
MEXICO CITY – Tech giant Microsoft plans to invest $1.3 billion over the next three years to enhance its infrastructure in Mexico focused on cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI). This announcement was made by the company’s Chairman and CEO, Satya Nadella, during an event held in Mexico City.
Nadella emphasized the commitment to increase capacity in Mexico, stating, "We’re doubling down on bringing more capacity to Mexico."
The investment will primarily focus on improving connectivity and promoting the adoption of AI technologies among small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs). According to the company, the initiative’s goal is to impact 5 million Mexicans and reach 30,000 SMBs within three years.
Already, several Mexican companies, including prominent breadmaker Bimbo and cement producer Cemex, are utilizing Microsoft’s AI tools as part of their operations.
In partnership with communications company Viasat, Microsoft is also aiming to provide internet access to over 150,000 Mexicans who currently lack cellular connectivity, with the target completion date set for the end of 2025.
Incoming Economy Minister Marcelo Ebrard described the investment as "great news for our country" and noted in a post that it will significantly enhance Mexico’s AI capabilities in a short period.
