Hurricane Milton has rapidly intensified to a category 5 status, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center.

Currently, Milton is situated approximately 735 miles (1175 km) southwest of Tampa, Florida, with maximum sustained winds reaching 160 mph (250 kph). The Miami-based forecaster provided this update on the situation.
