Musk’s Starlink Wins Bid to Launch Rural Satellite Internet in Mexico – Documents by Reuters

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) – Starlink, the satellite internet service operated by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, has secured a contract with Mexico’s state energy firm, Comision Federal de Electricidad (CFE), to provide services through December 2026, as revealed in documents reviewed by Reuters.

The contract is valued between 887.5 million pesos (approximately $51 million) and 1.8 billion pesos (around $101 million), according to the CFE’s decision. Starlink emerged as the winning bidder by offering the most favorable pricing conditions compared to two competing companies.

This agreement will facilitate the infrastructure needed for CFE to expand internet access in rural areas of Mexico, as outlined in a separate document detailing the initiative. The draft contract indicates that the partnership started last month and will continue until December 31, 2026.

Representatives from CFE and Starlink have yet to respond to inquiries regarding the commencement of the contract or the status of Starlink’s other pending bids.
