Oil Tanker Safely Moored at Northern German Port; Fire Extinguished, Reports Reuters

FRANKFURT – Rescue services and firefighters in Germany have successfully extinguished a fire aboard an oil tanker in the Baltic Sea and safely brought the vessel into the port of Rostock, according to city authorities.

"The ship is securely moored… the fire has been completely extinguished. The tanker was escorted into Rostock’s overseas port early in the morning," a statement from the city hall reported, noting that the cargo remained unaffected.

The fire erupted on Friday on the 73-meter-long oil tanker Annika, which was transporting approximately 640 tonnes of oil.

Divers are currently examining the hull for any potential deformations or cracks. Additionally, police and marine investigators are set to inspect the vessel to determine the cause of the fire.
