BERLIN – German Chancellor Angela Merkel stated on Thursday that the federal government and the 16 states are making preparations for a potential disorderly Brexit. However, Berlin remains committed to ensuring that the United Kingdom exits the European Union through a mutually agreed deal.

"We all agree that we want an orderly exit. We are not working towards a scenario that occurs without rules," Merkel informed reporters following a meeting with state premiers.

Despite the focus on an orderly transition, she emphasized the need for readiness. "We must prepare ourselves and have discussed maintaining close communication. We are prepared to meet again on short notice. But our main objective remains achieving an orderly exit," Merkel added.
