Polkadot Empowers AutoGreenCharge App to Decarbonize EV Charging

Energy Web has announced the beta launch of AutoGreenCharge, a mobile application that simplifies the process of decarbonizing electric vehicle (EV) charging by ensuring that every charge is powered by renewable energy.

The app is accessible to EV owners globally, catering to popular models such as Tesla, BMW, and Mercedes.

AutoGreenCharge is built on Energy Web’s decentralized EnergywebX platform and secured through Polkadot blockchain technology. The app matches EV charging sessions with renewable energy certificates (RECs), offering real-time verification that the energy used is sourced from renewables.

“AutoGreenCharge represents a significant advancement in the electrification and decarbonization of transportation,” stated Mani Hagh Sefat, Chief Technology Officer at Energy Web. “By providing EV owners with an effortless way to ensure their vehicles are charged with renewable energy, we empower drivers to make more sustainable choices and contribute actively to the global energy transition.”

The app also collaborates with Smart Car, allowing EV owners to easily connect their vehicles to the platform. Each charging session is automatically tracked, offering comprehensive insights into energy consumption and environmental impact.

As development continues towards a full release, users will have the capability to retire actual RECs with each session. Additionally, they can customize their preferences to select the type and source of renewable energy, including solar, wind, and other clean energy options from around the globe.

By utilizing Polkadot, AutoGreenCharge guarantees that every transaction and REC retirement is securely documented.

In the future, users will have the opportunity to choose certificates from various power plants with distinct attributes. For example, they can opt for solar power plants situated in high-emission grids, which would have a more pronounced effect on reducing carbon emissions as opposed to renewable energy facilities in areas already abundant in renewables.

The beta version of AutoGreenCharge is currently available on Apple’s TestFlight and the Google Play Store.
