Russia Dismisses Nuclear Talks with U.S. Over NATO Expansion Stance, Reports Reuters

Russia Rejects Nuclear Talks with the U.S. Citing NATO Expansion

MOSCOW – The Russian government has ruled out the possibility of engaging in nuclear talks with the United States, attributing this decision to Washington’s stance on the expansion of NATO. Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, made this statement on Wednesday.

Zakharova emphasized that there is no value in dialogue with the U.S. if Russia’s core interests are not acknowledged. She pointed out that NATO’s growth into post-Soviet territories poses significant security threats.

Furthermore, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated on Tuesday that Russia is not open to negotiating a new treaty to replace the existing strategic nuclear weapons agreement, which is set to expire in 2026. He underscored the need for such discussions to encompass a broader scope, including other nations.
