Satoshi-Era Bitcoin Whale Shocks Bitstamp with Huge BTC Transfer

An ancient Bitcoin wallet, holding a significant $3 million in BTC, has come back to life after years of inactivity, transferring a portion of its assets to a prominent crypto exchange.

Arkham Intelligence revealed in a tweet that a 13-year-old whale, which amassed $3.17 million in Bitcoin back in mid-2011, has reactivated its wallet. Similarly, Whale Alert reported that a dormant address containing 50 BTC worth approximately $3,173,594 has been activated after 13.3 years.

According to Arkham Intelligence, this wallet had been completely inactive since it received the coins over a decade ago. Upon reactivation, it sent 20 BTC, totaling around $1.27 million, to the exchange.

### Old Bitcoins on the Move

Recent observations from CryptoQuant indicate a surge in the movement of older Bitcoins, as there has been a notable increase in transfers from various age categories during the recent rise in Bitcoin’s value. Transfers on the Bitcoin blockchain have continued to occur.

In another instance reported by Arkham Intelligence, a Bitcoin whale, holding $77 million in BTC mined during the cryptocurrency’s early days, transferred 5 BTC to another exchange. These transactions trace back to the “Satoshi era,” a time when Bitcoin’s pseudonymous creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, was active on public forums from late 2009 to 2011.

Arkham Intelligence estimates that this particular whale still holds approximately 1,215 BTC, valued at $77 million, mined in February and March of 2009, just a couple of months following Bitcoin’s debut.

After several movements from 2011 to 2014, this wallet remained dormant for nearly a decade, during which its value soared from $474,000 to over $80 million. The whale reawakened about three weeks ago and has transferred a total of 10 BTC to another exchange through three separate transactions.

This activity comes shortly after another early Bitcoin whale, who also mined their coins around the same period, reactivated after 15 years of dormancy, moving $16 million worth of BTC. This has raised questions about why these early Bitcoin whale wallets are suddenly becoming active again.
