A Michigan inmate has been awarded a $100 million judgment against Sean “Diddy” Combs after accusing the rapper of drugging and sexually assaulting him at a party nearly 30 years ago.
Derrick Lee Smith, 51, obtained the judgment by default in Lenawee County Circuit Court during a virtual hearing on Monday, as Combs, 54, did not appear.
Combs’ attorney stated that the rapper intends to challenge the judgment and have it dismissed.
“This man (Smith) is a convicted felon and sexual predator, having been sentenced on 14 counts of sexual assault and kidnapping over the past 26 years,” attorney Marc Agnifilo remarked. He added, “His history now includes committing fraud on the court from prison, as Mr. Combs has never met him, nor has he been properly served with any lawsuit. Mr. Combs looks forward to having this judgment swiftly dismissed."
Smith, who is currently serving a 75-year sentence for sexual misconduct and kidnapping, filed complaints against Combs in June and August. He was also granted a temporary restraining order against the rapper, who faces several other pending sexual assault cases.
Combs, the founder of Bad Boy Records, is recognized as one of the most influential figures in hip-hop, boasting a successful career as both a producer and performer, along with his Sean John clothing line.
