Second Body Discovered in Mallorca Canyon Where British Hiker Passed Away, Reports Reuters
MADRID – The Guardia Civil police in Spain discovered the body of a young man on Friday in a mountainous region of Mallorca during their search for a British hiker. This search follows the tragic finding of another hiker’s body earlier in the week after a storm struck the island.
Since Wednesday, emergency services have been conducting operations near the Torrent de Pareis canyon in the Tramuntana mountains, looking for two missing Britons after they were swept away by flash floods. The body of one of the hikers, a woman, was located on Wednesday.
According to a police statement, "The Guardia Civil has found the body of a young man which, pending judicial identification, corresponds to the young man who disappeared last Tuesday while hiking the Torrent de Pareis trail."
Authorities previously reported that an additional 10 hikers had been rescued from the canyon after being caught off guard by the storm, while two individuals were reported missing.
Torrent de Pareis is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site and is considered one of the most picturesque hiking routes in Mallorca. It starts in the heart of the Tramuntana mountain range and ends at a sandy beach. The trail is rated as medium to high in difficulty, and flash floods are a risk, particularly between autumn and spring.
