SMCI Ships Over 100,000 GPUs per Quarter: Stock Surges
Shares of Super Micro Computer experienced a significant rise of 16.9% on Monday following the announcement that the company is currently shipping over 100,000 GPUs each quarter. This marks a significant achievement in the support of AI-driven data centers.
The company reported the deployment of more than 100,000 GPUs equipped with liquid cooling solutions for some of the largest AI facilities ever constructed, in addition to several cloud service providers (CSPs). Each server is designed to require nearly 12kW of power for AI and high-performance computing workloads, making liquid cooling a more effective option for maintaining optimal operating temperatures for both GPUs and CPUs.
Supermicro, recognized for its innovative IT solutions in cloud computing, AI/ML, and edge computing, is utilizing its liquid cooling technology to address the increasing demands from AI factories and CSPs.
The newly introduced liquid cooling solution aims to lower energy consumption and reduce the costs associated with cooling infrastructure. This solution includes advanced coolant distribution units, cold plates, and modular cooling towers, all engineered for high-density GPU and CPU performance.
The company has already implemented this technology in some of the largest AI factories, reinforcing its commitment to supporting AI operations.
Supermicro’s CEO, Charles Liang, emphasized the company’s focus on innovation, stating that their plug-and-play rack scale liquid cooling solutions are significantly reducing costs while enhancing performance in AI facilities, leading to considerable power and space savings.
These advancements allow for a more efficient cooling process, achieving a power reduction of up to 40%, which enables AI servers to function within a more compact data center footprint. The technology is also expected to facilitate increased computing density and faster training times for large-scale AI models.
