Soccer Trial over Maradona’s Death Postponed Until 2025, Reports Reuters

A trial involving eight health workers, charged with “homicide by negligence” in connection with the death of Diego Maradona, has been delayed from October to March, as reported by Argentine media on Thursday.

A court in San Isidro, located on the outskirts of Buenos Aires, accepted a request from three of the defendants to postpone the trial for the second time. The trial was initially set to begin on June 4 and then moved to October 1, but it will now commence on March 11.

Maradona, a football legend who led Argentina to its second World Cup victory in 1986, passed away at the age of 60 in November 2020 due to heart failure following brain surgery just days earlier.

Among those facing charges related to Maradona’s death are his neurosurgeon, psychologist, psychiatrist, and several nurses, all of whom could potentially receive prison sentences ranging from eight to 25 years.
