Spirit Aero Evaluates Furlough Contingency Plans Amid Boeing Strike, Reports Reuters
Spirit AeroSystems is currently assessing its contingency plans regarding potential furloughs, according to a company spokesperson. However, a decision has not yet been made.
The Wichita, Kansas-based aerostructures manufacturer is considering these measures following a strike involving over 32,000 Boeing workers on the U.S. West Coast, which has begun to impact the supply chain for the major aerospace company.
Boeing and its largest union are set to resume contract negotiations on Friday as they seek to resolve the strike that has significantly affected aircraft production and the company’s financial health.
The strike began on September 13, marking the first union walkout since 2008, and has halted production of various aircraft models, including the popular 737 MAX, for which Spirit AeroSystems manufactures the fuselage.
Spirit spokesperson Joe Buccino stated, “We’re reviewing our contingency plans regarding furloughs. No decisions have been made at this time.” He also mentioned that the company is considering various actions to safeguard its future.
Additionally, reports have emerged indicating that Spirit may initiate furloughs in three weeks if the strike persists.
