Stellantis to Manufacture Five New EVs at Melfi Facility in Italy
Italian labor unions announced on Tuesday that Stellantis, the parent company of Chrysler, will start producing five new medium-sized electric vehicle models at its Melfi plant in southern Italy. These models, which will represent various brands, are aimed at the European and Middle Eastern markets, with production scheduled between 2024 and 2026.
During a meeting with the unions on Tuesday morning, Stellantis shared its production plans for the Melfi plant, helping to reduce tensions that had escalated after a one-day strike last month.
Production is set to commence early next year, beginning with a model from the DS brand. Following that, the new Jeep Compass will be launched in 2025, available in both fully electric and advanced hybrid versions, along with another model targeted at the DS luxury brand.
Additionally, the production of two more models under the Opel and Lancia brands is slated to start in 2026.
It’s important to highlight that the assembly of current models, including Fiat’s 500X, as well as Jeep’s Compass and Renegade, will be phased out between 2024 and 2025, as indicated by statements from the FIM-CISL, UILM, FISMIC, and UGL unions.
In mid-day trading on Tuesday, shares of Stellantis were down by 1.51%.
