Biden Strengthens Asylum Ban at U.S.-Mexico Border for Extended Duration – Reuters

By Ted Hesson

WASHINGTON – Officials from the Biden administration announced plans to extend an asylum ban at the U.S.-Mexico border, aiming to reduce illegal crossings further.

Starting just after midnight, the updated policy will maintain asylum restrictions until the number of illegal migrant arrests drops below a daily average of 1,500 over a 28-day period, an increase from the previous seven-day timeframe.

President Joe Biden implemented the initial asylum ban in June as a response to a record surge in illegal crossings. Immigration has become a significant issue for voters leading up to the upcoming election on November 5, where Vice President Kamala Harris will face off against Republican Donald Trump, known for his strict immigration stance.
