Titanic Builder Harland & Wolff Appoints Administrators, Job Cuts Ahead – Reuters

British shipbuilder Harland & Wolff announced on Friday that it has appointed administrators, leading to anticipated job losses as the company faces challenges in obtaining funding.

Currently employing 66 staff members, the firm indicated that the administrators would need to reduce the workforce, although a portion of employees would be retained for essential services.

Based in Belfast, the shipbuilder, known for constructing the Titanic, narrowly avoided closure in 2019. It clarified that its subsidiaries in Belfast, Scotland, and Appledore, England, are not affected by the insolvency proceedings and will continue to operate under their current management.

Earlier in July, the UK government denied the company’s request for a £200 million credit facility. Additionally, the CEO was placed on immediate leave that same month, while the finance chief resigned in September.
