Trump Aims to Disqualify Georgia Prosecutor, Accusing Her of ‘Stoking Racial Animus’ – Reuters

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has joined his co-defendant Michael Roman in a legal effort aimed at disqualifying Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and dismissing the criminal charges against them, as noted in a recent court filing.

Roman has previously claimed in court documents that Willis had an inappropriate association with Nathan Wade, the attorney she brought on to assist with the criminal case. Trump’s legal team has supported these allegations, adding new claims that Willis has improperly introduced racial elements into the case and incited racial hostility in her public statements regarding Roman’s assertions.

During a speech at a historically Black church in Atlanta, Willis questioned why Wade, who is Black, was scrutinized more than two other special prosecutors, who are white. “I’m a little confused. I appointed three special counsel, as is my right to do,” she stated, expressing surprise that only one of them was facing criticism.

Trump’s filing argues that Willis’ remarks could unfairly influence potential jurors against the defendants. Trump and 14 co-defendants are facing charges, including racketeering, for allegedly attempting to overturn Trump’s 2020 election defeat in Georgia, which he claims was marred by fraud.

Trump is currently the leading candidate for the Republican presidential nomination.

Roman had earlier sought to have both the case and Willis disqualified from his prosecution, alleging that Willie financially benefited from her purported romantic involvement with Wade. Public records indicate that Willis’ office has compensated Wade over $650,000 for his contributions to the case.

Willis has yet to officially respond to the claims in court. A hearing on the matter has been scheduled for February 15.
