Turkey’s Erdogan Expresses Hope for Improved U.S. Relations with New President, According to Reuters
ANKARA – Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan expressed hope that the new U.S. president would bring about improved relations, noting Ankara’s past disappointments with both Republican and Democratic administrations, as reported by various media outlets.
The upcoming 2024 U.S. elections, set for November, will feature Donald Trump from the Republican Party and Kamala Harris from the Democratic Party, who currently serves as Vice President. During his time in office, Trump enacted sanctions on Turkey due to its acquisition of Russian defense systems.
Before departing the U.N. General Assembly in New York, Erdogan addressed Turkish journalists and reiterated Turkey’s demand for reimbursement related to its investment in F-35 fighter jets. Turkey was excluded from the F-35 program as a result of its Russian purchases.
"My hope is that whoever comes does not make us miss the outgoing one," Erdogan remarked. "They all made us experience this disappointment. The Republicans and Democrats."
