Two ‘Micro’ Quakes Rattle Mexico City Residents Awake, Reports Reuters
Two minor earthquakes were recorded in Mexico City early Wednesday morning, waking residents throughout the capital. Fortunately, there were no immediate reports of damage, and the tremors did not set off alarms.
Mexico City Mayor Marti Batres confirmed the events on social media, stating, “Two microquakes were felt. We are gathering information. No damage has been reported so far.”
According to the national seismological service, the small but shallow earthquakes occurred 1 km below the area of Magdalena Contreras, on the outskirts of the capital, shortly after 6:40 a.m. local time. The magnitudes of the quakes were recorded at 2.8 and 1.8, respectively.
