U.S. Arms for Long-Range Strikes into Russia Not a Game Changer, Says Austin – Reuters
RAMSTEIN AIR BASE (Reuters) – U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin indicated on Friday that utilizing donated U.S. weapons for long-range strikes into Russia would not significantly alter the dynamics of the conflict for Ukraine. This statement serves as a subtle rebuttal to Kyiv’s desires for the lifting of arms restrictions.
During a press conference following a meeting at the U.S. air base in Ramstein, Germany, Austin emphasized that no particular weapon would serve as a decisive factor in the ongoing war. He pointed out that Russia has relocated its glide bombs beyond the effective range of ATACMS missiles, while Ukraine retains substantial capabilities to target locations that exceed the range of the British Storm Shadow cruise missile.
