U.S. Imposes Visa Restrictions on Ghana, Reports Reuters
The United States announced on Thursday that it will be implementing visa restrictions on Ghana, citing the country’s failure to cooperate in accepting its citizens who have been ordered to leave the U.S.
According to a statement from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has directed consular officials in Ghana to enforce these visa restrictions on certain visa applicants.
The statement further indicated that if Ghana does not respond appropriately, the restrictions may extend to a broader range of individuals.
DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen emphasized that Ghana has not fulfilled its international obligations to accept the return of its nationals who have been ordered removed from the United States.
Nielsen expressed hope that the Ghanaian government would collaborate with the U.S. to address these issues swiftly.
