Australia Stocks Higher at Close of Trade; S&P/ASX 200 Up 0.70%

Investing.com – Australian stocks were on the rise after the close on Monday, driven by gains in various sectors.

At the end of trading in Sydney, the market index climbed 0.70%, reaching a new all-time high.

The standout performers for the session included Fletcher Building Ltd, which saw its shares increase by 6.00%, or 0.15 points, closing at 2.65. Mineral Resources Ltd also had a strong showing, up 4.72%, or 2.32 points, to finish at 51.46, while Tabcorp Holdings Ltd rose 4.21%, or 0.02 points, to close at 0.50.

Conversely, the worst performers of the day were Resolute Mining Ltd, which declined by 4.52%, or 0.04 points, ending at 0.74. Nine Entertainment Co Holdings Ltd fell 3.85%, or 0.05 points, to close at 1.25, while Breville Group Ltd dropped 3.31%, or 1.17 points, finishing at 34.15.

Overall, advancing stocks outnumbered those that declined on the Sydney Stock Exchange, with 578 rising against 547 that fell, while 491 remained unchanged.

The index measuring implied volatility for S&P/ASX 200 options increased by 2.68% to 11.83.

In commodities, gold futures for December delivery rose by 0.49%, or 13.00, to $2,681.10 per troy ounce. Meanwhile, crude oil for November delivery increased by 1.16%, or 0.79, reaching $68.97 per barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose by 1.27%, or 0.91, to trade at $72.45 per barrel.

In currency markets, the AUD/USD remained stable, changing by 0.39% to 0.69, while AUD/JPY was unchanged at 98.28.

The US Dollar Index Futures experienced a slight decline of 0.01%, settling at 100.10.
