Ukraine Claims to Have Downed Six Drones and Two Missiles Amid Russian Attack, Reports Reuters
KYIV (Reuters) – On Monday, Ukraine’s air force reported that it intercepted six out of eight Russian drones and two out of three missiles during an overnight assault on four regions of the country.
Authorities in Kyiv noted that this marked the fifth attack on the capital in September, but thankfully, there were no reported damages or injuries within the city.
In recent weeks, Russia has unleashed hundreds of missiles and drones against Ukraine, prompting the Ukrainian government to emphasize to its Western allies the critical need for enhanced air defense and long-range strike capabilities to combat these threats.
During the incident on Monday, air defense systems successfully targeted aerial threats in the Kyiv region. However, debris from intercepted drones caused two separate fires in open areas, which have since been extinguished, according to regional officials.
Serhiy Lysak, the governor of the central Dnipropetrovsk region, reported that air defense units shot down two missiles and one reconnaissance drone. Additionally, Russian shelling in the town of Nikopol injured three individuals and resulted in the tragic death of a 16-year-old girl, as stated by Lysak.
In the Cherkasy region, the governor indicated that air defense measures resulted in the destruction of another drone, with debris causing a fire that has also been contained.
The energy ministry disclosed that Russian forces had targeted energy facilities across seven regions within a 24-hour period. However, no specific details regarding the extent of the damage inflicted on these facilities were provided.
