Ukraine Reports One Injury from Russian Drone Attack in Kyiv Region, According to Reuters
KYIV (Reuters) – A series of drone attacks by Russia overnight resulted in one injury and damage to five homes in Ukraine’s Kyiv region, local authorities reported on Monday.
Governor Ruslan Kravchenko indicated that critical infrastructure in the area surrounding the capital remained unharmed.
During the assault, which impacted central, northern, and southern regions of Ukraine, the air force successfully intercepted 53 out of 56 Russian drones, as stated in an official communication on a messaging platform.
Almost 20 drones targeting Kyiv specifically were destroyed by air defense units, according to the military.
"Russian attack drones were approaching Kyiv from various directions and in different groups," noted Serhiy Popko, head of Kyiv’s military administration. He also mentioned that there appeared to be no casualties or damage in Kyiv based on preliminary assessments.
Witnesses reported hearing a series of loud explosions that seemed to be the result of air defense systems in action.
Russia has been conducting a relentless campaign of missile and drone strikes against Ukraine as part of its ongoing invasion, which has lasted for over two years, causing considerable damage to the nation’s power grid and other civilian infrastructure.
Moscow has not provided an immediate response. The Russian government claims its aerial strikes are aimed solely at infrastructure critical to Ukraine’s military efforts.
