UK’s Princess Kate Expresses Gratitude After Completing Chemotherapy, Reports Reuters

LONDON – Kate, the Princess of Wales, announced on Monday that she has completed her course of preventative chemotherapy for cancer. She expressed that the treatment has provided her with a new perspective on life and a deep appreciation for "simply loving and being loved."

The 42-year-old, who is married to Prince William, underwent significant abdominal surgery in January that confirmed the presence of cancer. Following the surgery, she began her treatment regimen.

In a heartfelt message accompanying a video featuring her, her husband, and their three children—Princess Charlotte, 9, and Princes George, 11, and Louis, 6—Kate mentioned her plans to participate in a few public engagements later this year. However, she emphasized that her journey toward full recovery will be lengthy, and her primary focus is to remain cancer-free.

"As summer comes to a close, I cannot express how relieved I am to have completed my chemotherapy treatment," she shared. "The last nine months have been incredibly challenging for our family. Life can change unexpectedly, and we’ve needed to find a way to navigate the tumultuous journey ahead."

Following her surgery, Kate spent two weeks in the hospital, and she revealed the cancer diagnosis two months later via video. Kensington Palace has not disclosed any specific details about the type of cancer or her treatment, only confirming that she began preventative chemotherapy in February.

Her first public appearance this year occurred in June at the military parade celebrating King Charles’s official birthday, followed by her attendance at the Wimbledon tennis championships.

"The cancer journey is complex, scary, and unpredictable for everyone, especially for loved ones," she acknowledged. "It brings a humbling confrontation with personal vulnerabilities and fosters a new perspective on life. This experience has reminded William and me to cherish the simple yet profound joys that many of us often overlook: the essence of loving and being loved."

King Charles, who has also been undergoing cancer treatment, and his wife Camilla have described Kate’s announcement as "wonderful news," expressing their continued love and support for her as she pursues her recovery.

The video, filmed last month in Norfolk, depicted the princess in good health and enjoying time with her family. The footage captured them walking through nature, having fun, and sharing sweet moments, including Kate pushing Louis on a swing and playing cards with her parents.

Kate expressed gratitude for the global support she received, noting her eagerness to return to public duties when possible while keeping her schedule light for the remainder of the year.

"Staying cancer-free is now my priority. Although I have finished chemotherapy, my healing journey is still in its early stages, and I must take things one day at a time," she stated, often referred to by her maiden name, Kate Middleton. "Despite the challenges I’ve faced, I approach this new chapter with renewed hope and an appreciation for life. To everyone on their own cancer journey, I stand with you, side by side. Out of darkness, light can emerge; let that light shine bright."
