LONDON – Kate, the Princess of Wales, announced on Monday that she has completed her course of preventative chemotherapy for cancer. She expressed that the treatment has provided her with a new perspective on life and deepened her gratitude for the simple joys of love and connection.

The 42-year-old princess, who is married to Prince William, underwent significant abdominal surgery in January that revealed the presence of cancer. Since then, she has been undergoing treatment.

In a heartfelt message accompanied by a video featuring her with her husband and their three children—Princess Charlotte, 9, and Princes George, 11, and Louis, 6—Kate shared that she would be participating in a few public engagements later this year. However, she emphasized that her journey toward full recovery would be lengthy and that her primary focus is to remain cancer-free.

"As the summer comes to an end, I cannot express how relieved I am to have completed my chemotherapy treatment," she stated in her message. "The past nine months have been incredibly challenging for our family. Life can change in an instant, and we have had to learn how to navigate through the uncertainties."

After spending two weeks in the hospital following her surgery, Kate revealed her cancer diagnosis in a video message two months later. Kensington Palace has not provided specific details about the type of cancer or the specifics of her treatment, other than confirming that her preventative chemotherapy began in February.

Kate made her first public appearance since her diagnosis in June during the annual military parade for King Charles’s official birthday, followed by her attendance at the Wimbledon tennis championships.

Describing her cancer journey, she said, "It is complex, intimidating, and unpredictable for everyone, particularly for those closest to you. It forces you to confront your own vulnerabilities in ways you might never have imagined, leading to a fresh outlook on life."

This experience has prompted both Kate and William to reflect and appreciate the fundamental aspects of life that many often overlook. "We have been reminded of the importance of simply loving and being loved."

King Charles and his wife Camilla expressed that Kate’s announcement was "wonderful news," and they pledged to continue providing support as she continues her recovery.

In the recently filmed video from Norfolk, Kate appeared healthy and content. The footage showed family moments, including walks in nature, playing cricket, and enjoying time together at the beach.

Kate expressed her gratitude for the global support she has received and shared her eagerness to return to royal duties when she’s able, though her schedule will remain light for the remainder of the year.

"My focus now is on staying cancer-free. Although I have completed chemotherapy, the journey to healing and full recovery is long, and I will take each day as it comes," she remarked. "Finding hope and appreciating life anew fills me with positivity. To all who are on their own cancer journeys, know that I stand with you. From darkness comes light, and we must let that light shine brightly."
