US State Dept Approves Potential Sale of Stinger Missiles to Egypt for $740 Million, Report Says
The U.S. Department of State has authorized the potential sale of 720 Stinger missiles to Egypt, with a total value of $740 million, according to the Pentagon’s announcement on Tuesday.
These missiles have seen significant demand in Ukraine, where they have proven effective against Russian aerial assaults, as well as in neighboring European nations preparing for possible confrontations with Russian forces.
Egypt plans to deploy the Stinger missiles on vehicles equipped with the Avenger launcher system, rather than using the traditional shoulder-fired launchers.
RTX Corp will be the primary contractor for this sale, as stated by the Pentagon.
Earlier this summer, several NATO member countries placed orders for nearly $700 million worth of these missiles, extending the production lines’ order backlog through 2029. Egypt’s order will further contribute to this increased demand.
