
India Stocks End Higher; Nifty 50 Rises 0.83%
India’s stock market closed higher on Monday, driven by gains in various sectors, including notable increases in the NSE and BSE indices.
At the end of trading on the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the index rose by 0.83%, while the BSE index increased by 0.76%.
Among the session’s top performers on the NSE was Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd, which saw an increase of 3.77%, equivalent to 32.40 points, finishing at 892.85. Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. followed closely with a 3.12% gain, or 39.05 points, closing at 1,290.65. Eicher Motors Ltd. also performed well, rising by 2.75%, or 90.55 points, to end the day at 3,382.00.
Conversely, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. experienced the largest decline, dropping by 1.18% or 38.20 points, to close at 3,202.05. Infosys Ltd. fell by 0.98%, losing 14.85 points and ending at 1,507.35, while Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. decreased by 0.95%, down 1.40 points to 145.80.
On the BSE Sensex 30, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. emerged as a top performer, rising by 2.97% to 1,288.60. Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. followed with a 2.58% increase to settle at 218.80, while Bharti Airtel Ltd. gained 2.31%, closing at 841.00.
The worst performers on the BSE were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd., which fell by 1.13% to 3,201.60, and Infosys Ltd., which lost 0.97% to end at 1,507.60. Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. also dropped by 0.63% to close at 987.00.
Overall, advancing stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange, with 1,121 gainers against 788 losers, and 72 stocks remaining unchanged. On the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2,026 stocks rose while 1,472 fell, with 157 unchanged.
The implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, indicated by the volatility index, decreased by 3.68%, reaching 13.55.
In commodities, Gold Futures for February delivery increased by 0.34%, rising 6.05 to $1,806.25 per troy ounce. Crude oil for February delivery also saw a rise of 0.54%, up 0.40 to $74.86 per barrel, while the February Brent oil contract climbed 0.53%, gaining 0.42 to trade at $79.46 per barrel.
In the currency market, the USD/INR pair was down 0.04% to 82.67, whereas EUR/INR rose by 0.30% to 87.78. The US Dollar Index Futures decreased by 0.25%, settling at 104.07.
