Vitalik Buterin Clarifies His Mysterious ETH Transfers
In an effort to clarify recent speculation about his transactions, Vitalik Buterin, the well-known founder of Ethereum, addressed concerns from the crypto community via social media.
In a tweet, Buterin sought to correct any misconceptions regarding his recent transfers, stating that reports suggesting he was personally selling Ethereum were misleading. He explained that these transactions were primarily charitable donations to various organizations and projects, which required liquidation to cover operational costs.
Buterin’s remarks came amidst rising confusion within the cryptocurrency space about these transfers, with many interpreting them as sell-offs that contributed to negative market sentiment.
A key example involved Kanro, a charity with close ties to Buterin, which recently executed significant transfers totaling roughly 15.43 million USDC. Of this sum, 500,000 USDC was transferred to one exchange on October 14, while a substantial 14.93 million USDC was sent to another platform two days later.
Buterin had introduced Kanro earlier in June, emphasizing its financial backing from Crypto Relief—a group he co-founded—with a mission to research global solutions for pandemic responses and preparedness for future health crises.
Despite Buterin’s clarifications, the nature of his recent transactions remains somewhat enigmatic, leaving many in the crypto community curious. While some questions have been addressed, the full story behind these activities seems to invite further speculation.
